Reil anno 2010

mullay totale»Molun« – an old name rings again.

The project matured over years. A great deal of sweat, blood and energy was poured into it: into the concept of the wine, the selection of the best vineyard blocks and especially the maintenance/reconstruction of the ancient earth-supporting walls which secure such steep slope vineyards.

»MOLUN« is naturally first and foremost a wine, grown and nursed to give you pleasure and joy. Depending on the vintage it is dry or ›perceived dry‹ and therefore just as much a wonderful companion to food as it is a distinctive soloist which impressively transports it’s origin into the glass. And it is grown according to the very rules of organic farming and winemaking.

mullay obenBut it means even more to us: It is the most pronounced expression of our efforts in maintaining the Reiler Mullay-Hofberg – one of the most impressive vineyards of the middle Mosel. Although we produce a large percentage of our wines there, only “MOLUN” represents the smallest, steepest, most difficult to access and most individual vineyard blocks. These tiny parcels of vines create fruit with extreme character but the blocks are too small to produce individual wines from each site. So instead they are united to produce a Riesling with a very unique profile which can only be created by sourcing fruit from each of these vineyard blocks.

MOLUN FlascheIt is because of this concept, the foundation of »MOLUN«, that it is possible to continue maintaining these sites in an economic fashion, allowing a century-old wine memorial and a tradition of our home to be conserved. A tradition which lies close to our hearts – not only as winemakers.
